ABOUT US
Behind the Name
Once upon a time, there were three little dogs, who lived together in a house in the woods. One was named Mr. Minkie, one was named Princess Poppy, and the third was named Frank the Tank.
They were as different as can be.
Minkie liked his bed big. Franklin liked his bed small. And Poppy liked her bed just right.
Minkie’s pace was fast. Franklin’s pace was unhurried. And Poppy’s pace was just right.
The rescue’s name started as a phrase I used lovingly for my three dogs to reflect their different personalities, much like the bears in the fairytale ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’—I wanted the rescue to carry that same joy and love forward to every dog we help while embracing their unique personalities and fun quirks.

The Inspiration:
Mr. Franklin
Before I adopted Franklin, I unintentionally observed which dogs received attention at an adoption event. While the puppies were surrounded by a large group of people, the older dogs were largely ignored.
That one moment is how I came to adopt a senior dog, Mr. Franklin, in 2019. He was found roaming the streets in Bakersfield, California. He’d been looking for a home for a few months.
He was such a sweet and silly dog. Although he didn’t get much attention when he was up for adoption, he went on to become an internet sensation. He helped spread the word about overlooked senior dogs in shelters, and convinced many to adopt a senior dog. Mr. Franklin spent his golden years filled with treats and love.
Three Little Bears was founded to help senior and other overlooked dogs just like Franklin find their forever homes, and to show how amazing the underdogs are. It only takes one person to change a dog’s life.
